Happy PA Week. October 6-12 is an opportunity to thank the almost 190,000 PAs in the US. Our profession has grown substantially over the past 50 years, and we are excited to see the roles PAs are assuming in addressing access to and delivery of healthcare.
As an indication of the continued growth of the PA profession, we have been steadily moving toward a post-professional doctoral degree with a focus on education and leadership over the past 10 years. This concept has gained momentum recently, with a significant increase in the various concentrations for PAs who wish to advance their academic degree and clinical/educational roles.
We have surpassed a significant milestone of 41 post-professional doctoral programs in the US. Attached is a list of those programs identified through the Consortium of DMS/DMSc Programs. These programs are offering unparalleled opportunities, and research has shown the impact on PA careers.
I have attached the list below for individuals to review the number of programs offered across the US at various institutions.
Happy PA week. We embrace the future of healthcare, and the role PAs will play.
James R. Kilgore, President, ADPA
