Dr Jamie Cox brings more than two decades of clinical, military, and organizational leadership to her role as Treasurer of the Academy of Doctoral PAs. She has practiced clinically for over 20 years across cardiology, cardiothoracic and vascular surgery, intensive care, trauma, family medicine, addiction medicine, and emergency medicine. She currently practices as an Emergency Medicine advanced practice provider with Vituity at a critical access hospital serving a rural West Virginia community.
Dr Cox earned her Doctor of Medical Science degree from the University of Lynchburg, where she completed advanced clinical training in family medicine and emergency medicine. She also holds a PA education certificate from the same institution. She completed her PA training at Methodist University and earned her undergraduate degree from Augustana College.
Service is a defining theme of Dr Cox’s career. She has served in the United States Army and West Virginia National Guard for over nineteen years, including roles as a combat medic and Medical Service Corps officer. Her deployments include providing care to Afghan refugees during the withdrawal in Kuwait and delivering medical support at the Texas border. She currently serves as the Medical Readiness Detachment Commander for the West Virginia National Guard.
Dr Cox is deeply engaged in professional leadership and advocacy. She is President of the West Virginia Academy of PAs, serves as the chief delegate to the House of Delegates, and is President Elect of the state organization. She has served as Secretary of the Academy of Doctoral PAs and now continues her service as Treasurer. She is also a member of the Society of Army PAs.
Her scholarly work includes a 2022 publication in JAAPA examining the long-term effects of prenatal opioid exposure. Outside of medicine, Dr Cox and her family reside in Elkins West Virginia, where they enjoy travel, outdoor recreation, and time together.
Dr Cox brings disciplined stewardship, operational insight, and a service first mindset to the financial leadership of the Academy of Doctoral PAs.
